This was my second RHS show and i was very leased to get the Best in Show award for my exhibit of epiphytic and terrestrial Bromeliads. I had been to the RHS Malvern spring show a few times before, working for Chris of Kelnan Plants. RHS Malvern Spring Show is a wonderful show set in the most beautiful countryside at the foot of the Malvern Hills. There are two large marquees, one is the floral marquee where you can find Andy’s Air Plants and around 60 other nurseries all with amazing displays from Bonsai to Carnivorous and Perennials to Shrubs and Trees. The other marquee is also interesting with wonderful displays of prize winning fruit and veg, floral art, photography and craft on display. There is much much more to see around the Flower Show as well.
I put lots and lots of effort into putting on the best display that i could, cramming even more plants into the display than my previous RHS show at Cardiff. I did a complete mock of my display at home in my polytunnel before dismantling it all and transporting it to the show and erecting it again.
Before judging one or two exhibitors are sometimes asked to go around with the RHS Judges to learn about the judging process and surprisingly just as i had finished setting up my sales table i was asked. It was very interesting and an extremely thorough process. The exhibits are split into groups such as Woody plants or Tender plants and each group has their own committee with experts in that particular field. Obviously i was not put into the group that judged my exhibit. After the judging is completed all separate committees return to the RHS Lindley Suite where the whole process is then re-assessed. It was at this point i was asked to leave the room while they discussed the category that my ‘Andy’s Air Plants’ exhibit was in.
On the first day of the RHS Malvern Spring show while i was manning my stand and dealing with lots of lovely, happy customers i was presented the Lynn Downs Best in Show Award for the best exhibit in the Floral Marquee of 2018. I was given the award by the President of the RHS Sir Nicholas Bacon OBE DL and Lt Col Patrick Holcroft LVO OBE. It was an amazing experience.
Im looking forward to exhibiting as Andy’s Air Plants at the RHS Malvern Show again on the 9th to the 12th of May 2019
I hope you enjoy my blog post 🙂
