Puya ferruginea grows on high altitude, scrub and grass lands from Ecuador, Peru and down to Bolivia. It is a medium sized species, has lovely long silver leavesand a tall, pinkish, much branched inflorescence with small purple tubular flower. Said to be hardy down to around minus 5c.
This can be planted out in the garden in a mild sheltered area or it can be grown in a pot. It will enjoy full sun and regular watering (especially if pot grown) in a free draining mix. These are nice plants in 1 litre pots.
