Tillandsia aeranthos Plant profile No. 4

This is just a short blog post that i will come back to later and update with more information about this species. But for now i really wanted to show you all this amazing purple leaved Tillandsia aeranthos that is in flower at the moment. It is my darkest form of aeranthos. The first picture shows two plants tied together, in full flower, the second image show the normal aeranthos to contrast.

Native to Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina from near sea level to several hundred meters altitude. It is known as the ‘Carnation of the sky’ by the Argentineans and is very popular with Hummingbirds that love the nectar. It grows into clumps of up to a dozen or more rosettes and is a regular and easy bloomer, flowering in the spring with lovely pink bracts and deep purple flowers.
