Tillandsia aeranthos is an easy and rewarding species to grow.
Native to Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina from near sea level to several hundred meters altitude. It is known as the ‘Carnation of the sky’ by the Argentineans and is very popular with Hummingbirds that love the nectar. It grows into clumps of up to a dozen or more rosettes and is a regular and easy bloomer, flowering in the spring with lovely pink bracts and deep purple flowers.
It is easy to grow, given bright, filtered light and regular wetting and drying.
I have singles and small clumps/twins available.
The lovely subtle lavender cast that covers the whole of this plant makes a welcome change to the usual tillandsia greens and I sense that this colour will remain all year round unlike the "blush" prior to blooming. The leaves are a little less stiff than its green counterpart and seem to be slightly narrower. Andy provided a nice sized specimen which I hope to bring to bloom in due course. Well packed and labelled as always.
