Dyckia 'Cherry Coke' is a cultivar of platyphylla X 'Carlsbad'. wonderful plant that colors up a deep cherry red in the sun. It has tall flower spikes of yellow or orange flowers that are very attractive to bees.
Dyckia's and Puya's are terrestrial Bromeliads meaning that they grow on the ground in the wild. There are around 120 different species of Dyckia. They are native to central Brazil, with some being found in Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina, and Bolivia from sea level to 2000 meters. They are amongst the hardiest plants in the Bromeliaceae family, taking temperatures in their native environment to minus 5c and below. In cultivation in the UK outdoors they are worth trying in a very sheltered sunny and free draining site. They are very good in pots and are very low maintenance.
