Tillandsia caput-medusae is named after the snake haired, Greek mythological character Medusa.
From Mexico and Central America Tillandsia caput-medusae is a striking species with lovely soft green leaves with purple edges to the lower leaves or sheaths. It has a bright red or less often green, flower spike that is branched and produces tubular purple flowers.
It likes high light levels or full sun and regular full covering of mist with good air movement, it responds well to a regular dose of fertilizer.
Here is a lovely large, near flowering size specimen mounted on drift wood with added Spanish Moss.
